Red, White & Royal Blue

Red, White & Royal Blue

Alex, the son of the first woman President of the United States, and Britain’s Prince Henry have a lot in common: stunning good looks, undeniable charisma, international popularity…and a total disdain for each other. Separated by an ocean, their long-running feud hasn’t really been an issue, until a disastrous—and very public—altercation at a royal event becomes tabloid fodder driving a potential wedge in U.S./British relations at the worst possible time. Going into damage control mode, their powerful families and respective handlers force the two rivals into a staged “truce.” But as their icy relationship unexpectedly begins to thaw into a tentative friendship, the friction that existed between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.

    Be happy (if you can)
No pun intended - it seems like using the g word (that can describe happiness, but also stands for a sexual orientation, mostly the latter nowadays of course) is allowed here. Still I will not risk it ... and talking of risks .. that is something the two main characters have to endure. Now I think this is quite out there and not in the closet (story of the movie that is) and yet here I am not having a clue - before I watched the movie.

Obviously if you have issues with the theme, if you are ... let's say traditional, you may want to steer away from the movie. This was not made for you. Kudos to the actors and really well written script. It may be too simple at some times (US acceptance - at least amongst the family - even more so considering the high stakes) ... but suspension of disbelief ... and just see it as a bit of a fairy tale ... it is about Princes after all ... well at least one .. but I reckon the other one can become one too! Good acting and dialog included of course.

Maybe the good score here also means that we do evolve ... or maybe it has been ignored by those who would not like this ... I'll stick with the former ... even if it may not be true ... again don't hate the movie, if it's not your thing. It isn't mine either, but it does tell a compelling story to say the least.

One or Twp Sequels Would Be Great....
Overall, this was a great movie...good casting, emotional shots, and Uma Thurman was fantastic. Her winner's speech at the end was inspiring, especially to all minorities and queer kids. This was one movie where I can overlook the differences between the book and the movie...they both work...!

Maybe they should have left Henry's grandmother as Queen, just to make it seem more current with the royal family of Queen Elizabeth, as most of us grew up with Elizabeth as Queen of England. But, if you research the real life private lives of the actors, you will find that most of the actors and their characters gel real closely.
