BadRoosevelt - 23 June 2024 Raunchy, colorful journey into self-discovery, a star-making vehicle for the alluring Ashley Park A young corporate lawyer, vastly successful, travels to China on a business trip where she and her circle of closest friends get to know one another and along the way she becomes determined to relocate her family roots, having been raised in the United States by a married white couple. What follows is an enjoyably entertaining but also very heartfelt depiction of cultural awakening.
Ashley Park, who makes most of her mark in television series, shows her ability to carry a feature film and she's quite good at it. Charismatic and vixen-ish, Park would make quite the movie star if she wanted to- an Asian-American Rita Hayworth in the making who can challenge and mystify us on the silver screen. She is surrounded by a delightful supporting cast of eclectic personalities. Gladly recommended to those who love a comedy off the beaten path.
Rob-O-Cop - 5 February 2024 Surprisingly off like a creepy, racist, drunk uncle at your bbq Perhaps if I'd seen Seth Rogan's name attached to this I would have known to steer clear, this was a surprisingly unfunny and out of sync film, crass and crude for all the wrong reasons, making all the participants look bad. Unnecessary springs to mind as does why a predominantly female team would turn in something as bad as the worst of their male counterparts would do.
There was so much bad slapped over the top of an actually interesting premise about identity. The Core story of who you think you are based on culture was quite interesting and the short piece where Daniel Dae Kim (who was the one of the only cast members not to embarrass themselves) and Ashley Park was quite touching and moving.
But so much of the rest of the film was ugly, and unpleasant viewing, and with locations in china and sth korea used you wonder how they got the script past these countries to get permission.
It was challenging in a bad way and didn't enrich my life in any way. I'll be steering clear of any of the people involved in this film if I possibly can.
