Tonally off, cringe inducingly unfunny, absolutely dire
One of the very worst films ever made. So much wrong with it and definitely not for dog lovers, people with a sense of humour, people with a brain, people who want a good date night movie, a family movie, a well written or interesting movie. Not for people who don't want to waste time and money. Nothing heartwarming here, tonally this is a very dark, nasty and mean spirited film. Lots of poor attempts at stoner humour and excessive regurgitation of the same handful of purile gangs. The worst film that any of the voice actors here have been in, which is saying something. Terminally dumb and as lowest common denominator as it is possible for a movie to be. Flabbergasted as to how it got made. Avoid !

Wonderfully inappropriate humour with a serious message
This movie is chock-full of juvenile humour and overall is bloody funny. It also has a serious message about dog welfare and responsible ownership. Seeing the world from a dog's POV was done well, and so poignant that the MC dog did not comprehend his owner's cruelty. I can't believe this was rated R in the USA, rated MA in Australia. We are not so prissy about language. If you want a belly-laugh but at the same time want to see human cruelty to dogs exposed, this is the movie you should watch. Reggie's loyalty to his owner exemplifies how trusting dogs can be of their owners despite all indications to the contrary. Fortunately, Reggie has some good friends.
