    Brilliant Performances and Solid Commentary
This was a movie that I saw opening night. It was one that I saw multiple times in the theater. I was hyped and anyone who wanted to see it, I would join them. It had been some time since the last time that I saw it though. Jaime and I decided to watch it since it appeared on the Internet Movie Database Top 100 poster.

In this sequel to Batman Begins, Batman (Christian Bale) has made a name for himself. So much so that there are people are impersonating him. He wants to clean up the streets, but it is becoming more difficult. He is also wanted by the police. Detective Gordon (Gary Oldman) collaborates with him, but not so much the others on his team. I should point out that they might be corrupt though.

Things take a turn when a new villain shows up and robs a mob bank. He goes by the name of Joker (Heath Ledger). The criminals of the city are pushed to his help, despite them believing him to be insane. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

This is aided by the fact that there is a tough district attorney that is looking to clean up the streets too. His name is Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart). He's a fan of Batman and things that he's good for the city. What is interesting there is that Harvey is seeing Bruce Wayne's ex-girlfriend, Rachel (Maggie Gyllenhaal).

As Batman and Harvey try to clean up the streets, Joker makes it difficult. This anarchist does what he can to vilify even the best of people. The best way to describe him goes to Alfred (Michael Caine). The Joker just wants to see the world burn.

Now this is another one that I'm assuming most everyone has seen. During this rewatch, Jaime and I agreed that what makes Batman work so well at adapting to the screen is that he doesn't have superpowers. He is a hero that is rich, skilled in fighting and is smart. It goes into the fantastic, but not too far where you don't believe it. I think that Bale does a great job here at balancing the rich Bruce Wayne to the caped crusader of Batman.

What also works here is the amazing cast around him. This was a performance of a lifetime for Ledger. He was amazing as the Joker. It is a shame to what happened to him. Eckhart is good as Harvey and in turn, Two-Face. Caine, Gyllenhaal, Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Cillain Murphy, Chin Han, Eric Roberts, Anthony Michael Hall and Michael Jai White are all good. There isn't a bad performance here to be honest.

Then what also helps is that Christopher Nolan does an excellent job with making this. This is a long movie, but I barely feel it. It moves through things so well. There are so many set pieces that stick out to me. We get CGI here and it is coupled with practical effects. Both are great. I think that the soundtrack fits the epic feel that it needs. This is just a well-made movie. I go back and forth as to which is my favorite. This or the next one. What I'll say is that this is great.

My Rating: 9.5 out of 10.
