    Harrowing
Harrowing inasmuch as this film contrasts the ordinary and happy lives that Jewish adolescents had in Amsterdam with the horrors of concentration camps. I have read Anne Frank's diary and seen several film versions of her life story. However this film, telling the story from the perspective of Hannah, her best friend, touched me most profoundly leaving me sobbing at the end. The fact that Hannah survived the Holocaust and lived to a grand old age of 93, dying only recently, is an amazing story. I think a higher budget film of her life story including her years as a nurse should have been made before her death. As far as technical points are concerned. I missed some of the nuances of the script/story as the dubbing and subtitles seemed a bit inconsistent. I get that there would be ladies in the concentration camp who would speak a different language to Hannah and not translating what they are saying conveys this to the viewers. However I don't get why Hannah's Mum was not dubbed into English as her father was. A minor point in what is otherwise a film that should be commended for the story it reminds us of.

You don't have to be Jewish to like this movie.
Recommend. Although the guards are depicted as kind towards the Jews, I loved certain scenes in My Best Friend Anne Frank. If you love movies depicting The Holocaust, then watch movie. I clapped out loud during the end credits.
