Klaus24 - 10 June 2024 Hollywood Good Ol' Days I'm not an expert of 30s and 40s' Hollywood, I only knew Orson Wells cuz he still has a big name today, so I was completely out here. But just like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the performances from the cast are so exceptional and felt that you cannot be invested, even just a little, in the story.
The plot follows the highs and lows of one of Hollywood best writers ever, Hermann Mankiewicz, who also appeared to be a compulsive drinker and gambler and a man with a great heart. He needs to write his best script ever for the upcoming film Citizen Kane (1941) by Orson Wells and in doing so, without the possibility of moving after a car crash, he goes down the memory lane of his roaring 30s, where he met a lot of powerful and mean people and also his platonic love, even if he always loves first his wife.
As I said all the actors here are great, most of all Gary Oldman, a real icon, he definitely deserved an Oscar, like Charles Dance and Amanda Seyfried (but as Orson put it, This is Hollywood!).
So, very pleased with the movie, even as a profane of the topic. We desperately need more legends like this cast and Mank in today's industry!
hnkn-39499 - 13 September 2023 horrendously boring "Mank" was really dull and confusing. The story didn't make much sense with all thise flashbacks, and the characters were not interesting at all.
It felt like I was waiting for it to end the whole time. The plot was all over the place, and it was hard to understand where it was going. It was like trying to solve a puzzle with missing pieces - frustrating and confusing.
They tried to make it look old-fashioned with black-and-white visuals, but even that didn't make up for the weak plot and uninteresting characters and it actually made it worse i like movies about 30s and 40s but this movie is a pain to watch because it's pointless.
