kelstin - 22 June 2024 Now in My Top Ten Favorites We watch a lot of movies. Naturally, I have favorites that I rewatch several times a year. This is now one of my top ten. This is a beautiful story, well presented, and captivating. I fell in love with it when I watched it, then watched it two more times over a period of several months. This is not counting the multiple times I have pulled it up and watched various parts.
The story drew me in as I witnessed Daniel's disappointment and his feeling of defeat. My heart went out to Ruby, who, bless her heart, was so exuberant, and just could not seem to settle down and fit in. I felt frustration as I watched others bring her back without spending time to work with her. I applauded the shelter volunteer who recognized Ruby's worth, and I thrilled when Daniel took her home.
I loved watching the bond form between the trooper and his canine, and the fact that neither he nor his wife gave up on Ruby. I cheered when Melissa, Daniel's wife, suggested that Ruby needed to be homeschooled. This tailored Ruby's education to her unique talents and needs, and allowed her to be successful beyond what anyone dreamed.
I am now going to watch this movie again this weekend.
Nyssareen_77 - 8 January 2023 A wonderful underdog tale if ever there was one! This was exactly the heartwarming-bordering-on-sentimental movie that I was looking for today! There are sooooooo many movies out there that are dark, gritty, or downright depressing that I am totally burned out on them. I stumbled across this one and thought it might be what I was looking for, and I was SO right!
This based-on-a-true-story movie is a great underdog (har har) tale that just gets you in all the right feel-good places. I loved how they built the characters and the relationships, especially between Daniel and Ruby and the ending brought everything full circle just perfectly. All the actors were great, but I was thinking the whole time how well-trained the dog playing Ruby was. During the credits, the filmmakers revealed that, just like Ruby in the story, the dog playing Ruby was also rescued from a shelter at "the last minute" and helped into playing the role perfectly. That was the icing on the cake for me and I had to go hunt down my own rescue dog and give him some love (and I may have slipped him a little raw hot dog too, but I won't tell if you won't!).
If you are a dog lover, love a good underdog-makes-good story, or are just looking for a break from all the dark, depressing stuff that abounds these days, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Rescued by Ruby. If you aren't smiling by the end of it, I'll wonder if you even HAVE a heart!
