    Am I missing the point?
A lot of people said she falls apart when she sees him, but I din't think she ever saw him.

I think the idea of losing her daughter (who was apparently going to college) triggered everything and she started having this "visions" that were never real.

I don't think the interaction with him ever happened. It was all in her head.

She started feeling so desperate with the idea of losing another kid, that she unintendly created everything in her head. All the interactions in which she was facing her abuser was her way of coping with the past, in order to accept the future.

The killing part just ment that she somehow overcame the trauma.

    Does that make sense?

    For fans of psychological horror
Rebecca Hall gives an impressive performance as a strong woman who is torn apart by the abuse she suffered in her youth. Debatable ending that breaks the exquisite script.

I found the lines, the dialogues, very sinister.

The movie takes us to something obvious, it doesn't deceive us, but it was brilliant how it inserted us into a disturbed mind, let's never forget that we live in a generation where mental illness predominates.

In Shadows of the Past, Margaret (Rebecca Hall) leads a successful and orderly life, perfectly balancing the demands of her busy career and solo motherhood with her daughter Abbie. But this careful balance is overturned when she catches a glimpse of a man she instantly recognizes, an unwanted shadow from her past. Shortly afterwards, she meets him again. Margaret then starts seeing David (Tim Roth) everywhere, and their encounters seem to be far from an unfortunate coincidence. Fighting her growing fear, Margaret must face the monster she has avoided for two decades, and deal with the apprehension as her tightly controlled world begins to unravel. David diabolically begins to pull the rug out from under her, coming to complete his unfinished business and excavating an inescapable past.
