If you love Downton you'll enjoy this
I don't think feature length films of hit series are ever as good, with plots often stretched out to fill time. However, it's good to see how life is going to turn out for some of the characters we've grown to love, and to say goodbye forever to the wonderful matriarch of the family.

The storyline is mainly divided between a film crew making a movie at the Abbey, much to the disdain of the likes of Lord Crawley and Carson, and a visit by family members to a villa generously left to the Dowager by someone who apparently loved her in her youth.

The film crew aspect is the most entertaining, with Dominic West at his wolfishly charming best as a famous silent movie star who may yet turn out to be the best thing that has ever happened to the lonely Mr. Barrow.

It's not brilliant but some of the characters achieve happiness that's good to see if you've followed them throughout the years. The emotional theme music always brings a tear to my eye and it's lovely to see another affectionate scene between Carson and Lady Mary.

As for Dame Maggie Smith, she does what she's done right from the start - she steals every scene she's in, right until the end.

A Delightful Adventure Filled with Secrets and Nostalgia
A classy British drama about the Crawley's that you'd never want it to end!

It is a brilliant sequel to Downton Abbey (2019), the movie.

This time, the Crawley's face an incredible adventure where the 7th Earl of Grantham discovers one of the family's most astonishing secrets that involves the Dowager Countess of Grantham's past in a subtle way.

Meanwhile, Lady Mary is busy with the film production crew who have rented out Downton Abbey for their silent film, The Gambler.

Many of the storylines that started with the tv series have reached their satisfying conclusions. If you have watched the series regularly, you will appreciate the connections.

Former Downton Footman, Mr. Molesley finally found a new career that showcases his hidden talents. He also proposes to the woman he loves in a hilarious way.

Mrs. Patmore also settles down happily.

And Barrow finds some solace at last.

    It was a delightful experience!

It was also nostalgic at times, remembering how the tv series ended on such a high note. But, who knows what the future holds for the Crawley's? Maybe there will be another sequel that will tell us more about their lives in a meaningful and justified way.

No matter what happens to the Crawley's or Downton Abbey in general, I feel like I have enjoyed watching every character grow and evolve.

As Cora Crawley says, "Individual Crawley's come and go, but the family lives on."
