The "prequel" to Orphan, but 13 years later.
In the 2009 "Orphan" was a plot hole of sorts, it did not indicate how Esther, an Eastern European girl who was actually in her 30s, found herself in the USA. This 2022 "prequel" covers that early, we find her in an institution, she manages an escape, kills a woman in her home, and uses her computer to find a USA missing girl who looks enough like her to pass for her after being missing for 4 years. Growing from 6 years old to 10 years old. Then arranging to be "discovered" by the police who figure out how to reunite her with her USA family.

A curious aspect, in the original actress Isabelle Fuhrman was about 11, and played a young woman in her 30s. In this movie Fuhrman is actually in her 20s and plays someone who could pass for 10. They do that in part by using a 10-yr-old body double for some scenes where we don't actually see her face.

Of the original, which I watched 13 years ago, I wrote "Pretty interesting movie, a cut above your usual horror flick. I like it!" This one I liked a lot less. The story didn't have a good enough flow and some of the developments seemed a bit abrupt. Still, it was an interesting viewing at just over 90 minutes.

MAJOR SPOILERS: When Esther gets reunited with the USA family things seem more than a bit rough right away and Esther doesn't know some of the things she should. Soon we find that the daughter wasn't kidnapped 4 years, instead she was accidentally killed by the older brother, the mom knew, and they used the kidnapping report as a ruse to prevent an investigation as they disposed of the body down a deep well in the woods. So the mom and son set out to get rid of the impostor but she turned the tables on them, by the end of the movie dad, mom, and son were all dead, the house burned down, and the ending would have set up the original movie if it had been made after this one.

    Great film.
I really liked the first film, I thought it was pretty original and well done. This one I was not sure about at first but was pleasently surprised. Every film you watch has plot holes, you can sit there and just be picky all night with any film. But I really enjoyed this. The twist was clever the acting was good and I think it does live up to the first one. Not sure why it has such a low-ish score on here but I would score it high. Enjoyable and watchable, very well acted and I would watch it again. Probably do this and the first one together one night. Would recommend it just don't be so picky with it and just enjoy the ride, and the acting by all especially the two main actresses.
