Don't waste your time on this amateur creation
This is one of the worst movies I've watched in recent years. It has some moments with beautiful scenery but everything else is just incredibly bland and boring.

If I wanted to watch beautiful nature scenes I would just watch Planet Earth.

There's so many points of failure in this movie: From the poor script, lack of interesting plot and characters, to the extremely poorly and unrealistically animated, computer-rendered "animals", which make you think you've just tuned into a Disney movie made by some gore fetishist basement-dweller. This movie really is a grand display of how to waste budget money.

Definitely not how I want to spend my movie night.

Save yourself some trouble and skip this one.

Lacking the right temperament. Go back and rewatch 1 and 2
After acknowledging that the original Predator is untouchable, every time a new film is added to this franchise it makes the second one (Predator 2) seems vastly superior by comparison. And yes, I include this last so-called "return to form" incarnation, which despite being better than recent entries doesn't come close to grasp a second place by any stretch of the imagination.

The key word here is 'temperament'. A lot of the things that 'Prey' tries to achieve by trying too hard have been done by Predator 2 in a truly gracious and effortless manner: Characters representing diverse backgrounds with more charisma, and a truly strong female character as part of the supporting cast. Maria Conchita Alonso's character beats Prey's formulaic bland lead by a landslide, and in an era when introducing such a character was not a "hip" crowd-pleaser move.

And maybe that's the issue with "Prey". The fact that while watching it you can't help but picture the film makers going through the 'do's' and 'don'ts' checklist while conceiving the film. Hence, you can more or less know not only what will happen but also how and why: "Lead character perceived as weak overcomes a menace showing everyone otherwise" is a classic trope but the way it's shown here is so formulaic and bland that you can tell these dudes were not really enjoying themselves that much when making this movie. If you can't push the envelope and surprise the audience there's not a lot of fun to be had, especially if there is a set of rules to follow.

Allowing uncompromising directors and film makers to do what they want and feel is right in order to entertain themselves and the audience is a simple idea, but an impossibility in today's climate, it seems.

Watch it. I don't think I'll rewatch it anytime soon. Although I assure you I will revisit the first two entries of the franchise at some point again. Go check the second one again. That's the temperament we need for a truly fun Predator entry. It's first 10 minutes are way better than any Predator related film that came after it and that's before Bill Paxton and Gary Busey even show up...
