It's an okay horror movie and an okay Insidious movie.
I was excited when I saw that the original gang from the first Insidious movie was making a return, but I still didn't have too high expectations. After all, it's the fifth movie in the franchise.

This film is a continuation of the first and second film. The story is okay. It's basically the same story as the first movie, but nine years later. The film focuses mostly on Dalton who is now in college, living with his repressed memories from The Further which are now beginning to return. Dalton's father is more of a side character. The mother is only around towards the end of the film, and Elise is hardly in at all, only a minute or so. You would think that they have bigger roles in the film when you see the movie poster, but no.

There is not much that is new in this film. It is even the same demon in this film that is in the first film, the Red-Faced Demon. It is a well made and creepy demon for sure, but it was more terrifying in the first movie. The Further was not as terrifying in this movie either. The movie has some good scares though, and I also liked the part when Dalton was possessed by the demon, because he was really creepy.

Overall, it's an okay horror movie and an okay Insidious movie. Nothing special about it. There are many worse horror movies out there.

Not as good as the others
This is not a real review, it should be understood more as a collection of impressions on the film.

Yet another chapter of a valid horror saga which over time had maintained its more than good level but which with this film has slightly lowered its quality, presenting a much more kid-friendly horror than all those before, with much less maturity where it comes from explained a lot but in a rather wrong way because it's all done in a really too hasty way and with a really forced and almost unnatural ending, but still the film is a good horror film. So in summary, this film is a good horror film but it lacks in many points compared to all the other chapters of the saga and for this reason it deserves a poor passing rating at best.
