Kevin James has Lost His Touch
What can I say about Home Team that hasn't been said already? It was super hyped during December 2021, then it came out, and I never heard anything about it. It was like it disappeared off the radar. One day on IMDB, I was looking for something new to watch and Home Team. I was like, "Oh, this is that Sean Payton movie with Kevin James; I love Kevin James." This is the worst movie Kevin James has appeared in, and he was in Mall Cop 2. I don't have a specific gripe because the whole thing is my gripe.

The biggest weakness is its comedy. Or lack thereof. Kevin James' antics no longer carry a movie or series like when he was younger. This film also is arguably one of the worst of his career. It's not entirely Kevin's fault. Taylor Lautner and Rob Schiender are arguably some of the worst actors of all time, and they don't help their case by appearing in this. Overall I was bored watching this. The gags were mostly unfunny and unoriginal, except for the wrong house scene. That is a genuinely hilarious scene and the only reason keeping it from being rated lower. I'll take a page out of the great Gene Siskel's book. This would be more entertaining if this was just the actors in this movie sitting down and having lunch.

2.5/10 A painfully unfunny comedy that follows all the cliches of sports films.

A Throwback for The Mighty Ducks Generation
I watched Apocalypse Now for the first time and it sort of messed me up so I needed a light watch to follow. Enter "Home Team."

My expectations were low coming into this film. Was it a cinematic masterpiece? No. Did I still have a good time? Yes. Was it a PR stunt for Sean Payton and the Saints? Probably. Did I care? No.

The 1990s brought us a bunch of fun sports movies for kids like "The Sandlot," "The Mighty Ducks," "Rookie of the Year," and "Angels in the Outfield." This movie shares some of that DNA. While it doesn't reach the heights of the best of the kids sports movie genre, I had a good time watching this movie. If there's anyone that's itching for a feel-good, kid-friendly sports movies, "Home Team" will scratch that itch.
