The Munsters

Lily is a typical 150-year-old lovelorn vampire who's looking for the man of her nightmares -- until she lays her eyes on Herman, a 7-foot-tall green experiment with a heart of gold. It's love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet for each other in a Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily's father has other plans for his beloved daughter's future, and they don't involve her new bumbling beau.

A Great Homage to the Original
Rob Zombie really did a great job paying homage to the original series with this film.

I really enjoyed watching the original "Munsters" series when I was a kid (it was in syndication by the time I came along). I only decided to watch this remake because of how much I enjoyed the original.

If I knew nothing about the original, I probably would not have enjoyed this. The first 15-20 minutes left me wondering where this was going. It wasn't until I started recognizing references to the original series that I understood this was an origin story, so to speak. Rob manages to throw in references to so many elements of the original, some of them were so obscure that I had long forgotten them. About halfway through the movie, I thought that if this was in black and white, and there was a laugh track, this would be nearly indistinguishable from that original series. That is how close Rob and crew get with this film. And then, to my surprise, that black and white/laugh track element is touched upon near the end of the film.

If you don't know anything about The Munsters, you are probably going to think this is a really odd film. However, if you are a Munsters fan, you will probably really enjoy this. Even the humor falls right in line with the original series. And this is where the film will likely find its worse critics, those who don't really know anything about the original series. Because it is so close to the original, it is not going to pick up any new fans. But, if you are like me, and enjoyed watching the reruns as a kid, you won't get any closer to that, than this film. Really nice job, Mr. Zombie.

    Beautiful set, fun movie
The sets of the movie are beautiful and creative which gives a great feel for the movie. Costumes were awesome as well. Writing was meh but this isn't supposed to be the best movie of all time. I'd say it's a great Halloween movie to watch with the family. It's surprisingly clean given zombie's other movies. I loved seeing much of the cast devils rejects in a different light.

In short, don't expect a mind blowing story or writing but it's a visually fun movie that is worth a watch. I had it on in the background at my Halloween party last year and the kids liked watching it. Excited for the next zombie flick.
