    Shocking and beautifully crafted cinematography
I just watched it a couple days ago, mostly because it reminded me of what happened last summer (2023), when multiple cities in France "lit up" due to the riots after a teenager got killed by the police during a traffic stop.

This movie is...UNBELIEVABLE GOOD!!! (I highly recommend to watch the make-of, available on Netflix too) The high tension scenes and constant anger, accompanied with a great choice of music track, created a masterpiece (in my honest opinion). Yes, the story behind is very sad and, as I mentioned above, it looks SO REAL with nowadays France...but this is the first time when I've seen the aftermath of something like that developed on the big screen.

Overall, a not-so-easy-to-watch movie, but hats-down to Romain Gavras for having the guts to make it, AHEAD of what happened last year in France!

THROUGH THE EYE OF A HURRICANE...!
A Netflix original from last year which takes off where 2019's Les Miserables started (no surprise since writer/director Ladj Ly co-scripts here) where a family from the projects is in turmoil when the youngest son is killed (presumably by the cops) sending his older brother, Sami Slimane, into a frenzy when he throws a Molotov cocktail during his other older brother's, a former soldier, Dali Benssalah, public plea to maintain calm sending the viewers scattering as Slimane & his denizens rampage through the tenement area putting them in direct odds w/the police who are under siege from the onslaught. What follows during numerous one shot takes is a documentary inspired view of hell as anger cannot be assuaged as both sides clash w/each other leaving innocent bystanders on the run as they evac the premises w/Benssalah in a race to quell Slimane doomed march which does ultimately lead to his death making Benssalah, grief stricken by the additional loss, to take up his mantle. Not an easy film to behold to be sure as tensions in this country are just as bad (even though the States boasts a better track record of assimilation) that seems to be the trajectory for tensions between people who have the unfortunate circumstances of living in the projects & their eternal nemeses, the police, leaving the film's flame drenched coda as a clarion call for things to change.
