nickgg-27432 - 24 June 2024 Hands down, worst piece of media i have ever consumed. No words can describe the levels of second hand embarassement and cringe i felt while watching this movie. I love " so bad it is good " movies like the room, but this wasn't even that. It was just a confused mess of scenes, laughable music and overplayed stereotypes. Don't even bother unless you are intoxicated or with REALLY good company. Seriously, I can't even describe how humiliating this movie was as a Greek person, and completely out of reality. The greek flags appearing all the time, and even 'wearing' them was for sure the most embarassing scene I've seen. It is apparent that not a SINGLE Greek person worked on this, and all jokes aside, "movies" like this can actually spread stereotypes.
gabyborn-99430 - 26 April 2024 A big OPNA At first I hoped to see this when it was in cinemas, and then I waited for the prices to go down so that they more reasonable before renting it and I am so glad I didn't waste my time or money.
So much was missing that it just didn't make sense, I mean the whole thing was so disjoined in the first place with no plot but so much was left unanswered; what happened to Ian's dad, why wasn't his mum mentioned at all, where was Ian's best friend Mike who was featured in the first two films, who ran the restaurant while everyone was in Greece, what happened to Yiayia and why didn't they close of her character, what are Toula and Ian doing now that Paris is grown up and why do they have to go on a vacation for the first time in the middle of a strangers wedding if they are retired, do they still live in the same house and does her mum live by herself etc. The whole thing was just rather sad, even with comic relief it wasn't funny, some of the original jokes have been overused to the point that it's so dry, like a piece of toast and yet other classics like the mention or use of windex wasn't used once.
Even just the whole premise that they go to their dads village to give three men Gus used to play with as a boy but never kept in contact with, a journal of their fathers upbringing and move to America seventy plus years later just doesn't make sense; like why would they care about his journal and what would they do with it? Surely it holds more meaning to the family to read it back. I get they had constraints with Michael's passing but they could have done a better job of it in my opinion; actually sat with their mums dementia and what it means to watch your remaining parent slip away, gone to Greece to honour their dads wish and burry him together, and also honour other family members no longer with them like maybe Yiayia or a nod to Ian's dad, tie into the first movie and meet some long lost relatives they found when they did the family tree etc. Or even setting the storyline a few years later showing the progression of not having either of their parents alive and the change that comes with that and letting go. I mean what made the first two movies successful in comparison was being relatable; first hiding a relationship and getting your family to come to terms with it and accept it, and then letting your child go and defend for themselves instead of hovering.. they had a prime storyline of showcasing a new transition when you lose both parents; showing grief, moving on, siblings fighting over the new roles and the things with packing up your parents life like dealing with the house etc. But nope instead they went with a bunch of new characters, a strangers wedding and no real purpose.
