The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid

The youngest of King Triton’s daughters, and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. With mermaids forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

    Pleasantly surprised
I refused to watch this movie for the longest time. The old animated movie was my favourite Disney movie of all time and their live action remakes have left me feeling disappointed more often than not.

But you know it was quite good actually. Halle Bailey has the most wonderful singing voice. Melissa McCarthy even manages to improve on the original Ursula somehow. The Caribbean music was very joyful. They also explore the relationship between Eric and Ariel a bit more than the original.

Like the new lion king with the animated animals, none of the animals are as expressionate as in the animated version, so it does suffer from that. It does have some (unintentionally?) creepy bits, like Ariel by the rock when she's watching Eric from a distance. It doesn't have the same magic.

But mostly I thought the movie was ok. It wasn't as good as the old one, but it's worth a watch.

    The Little Mermaid Review
The singing was the only positive about this movie. The animation is very crude. The CGI is absolutely abyssmal. There are times where it looks like the CGI models are lagging about because of the frame rate. Everything that was supposed to have high detail, like the song numbers, just looked like a bunch of fuzz moving around Ariel. It's hilarious to know that a multi-billion dollar company can't produce good CGI but a small gaming company can for a commercial.

Ariel is another topic too. The actress has a beautiful voice but her acting prowess is mediocre. There were lines she sounded like a child reading a script during rehearsal.

This was a complete mess and failure. The biggest flop is the failure to keep to the source.
