The Black Phone

The Black Phone

Finney Blake, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.

    A solid, strangely wholesome film
I wasn't expecting a lot- but I was pleasantly surprised, an interesting story line, a bit different from the usual horror premise that is getting a bit boring.

The performances from the two leading child actors, playing Gwen and Finn, were incredible, very impressive, they created strong characters with a wholesome bond who I was rooting for the entire time.

Ethan Hawke was brilliant as always, however I feel under-utilised in this role and I desired to see and learn more about his character.

In a whole, this movie was enjoyable, ominous and filled with impressive roles, carried by the child actors involved, a horror that left me feeling better than most do.

    Skimmed the surface...
This film didn't touch upon any background of the characters or the reasons as to why the whole situation was about .

It started off good but dragged until the end and then that felt cut short.

You was left with more questions and wondering what the point was by the time it finished .

It's one of them where you put it on , think this is alright then after 45 minutes think is this going anywhere and when it finishes you think is that it ?!

It could have been a great film if it had more depth , build up and background story to it

I give it a 5 because it was an 'OK' film to watch with your teenage kids (Their pick lol)
