    Portrait of a Creative Mind
The autobiographical musical follows a version of Rent composer Jonathan Larson, who tells the story of his life in New York City, his friends, his romances, and his struggle to become a musical theater writer - all as his impending 30th birthday hangs over his head. Andrew Garfield is a show stealer and showcased some impressive musical talent in one of the most emotional performances of the year.

Miranda, the mastermind behind Broadway smashes Hamilton and In the Heights making his directorial film debut, knows plenty about the journey of creating musical theater, and his admiration of Larson comes through clearly. As shaped by his direction and Steven Levenson's script, Garfield's Jon is brilliant but imperfect - you see all that creativity bursting out of him, but also how that drive frequently tunes out what his friends are going through - and someone the movie makes you want to root for. And the framing of the story, a staging of Tick, Tick... Boom! (with Garfield at the piano and Vanessa Hudgens and Tony nominee Joshua Henry as his fellow performers), allows Jon to tell his own story with space for musical numbers to fill the metaphorical room.

"You're thinking about how to turn this into a song aren't you?"
As an artist, a creator, a writer and a creative I never sympathized with a line from a movie this much before. I feel like every heartbreak every sad or happy feeling ends up becoming words on a page in my old worn up dusty journal. This movie encapsulates the stress creators feel when creating art, and how the system is set up in such a way for us to waste years looking at blank screens and pages only for a few of our works to make it to the big times, this doesn't mean those works were bad, it just means it was to "artistic" for the minds of "common people". Fantastic movie that really made me feel for the main protagonist. "Fear or love" as artists we also suffer with the issue if were doing the things we do in fear of not having anything to put out into the world or if we are doing it for the love we have for art and the want of putting something out in the world. "Time" something every creative mind suffers with, the time to write every story out mind tells us to, the time to sing every song and tune that wants to come out of our mouth or the time we need to create every piece of art we ever wanted to. This movie is really a cinematic masterpiece everything down to the music, the theme, and the cinematography. Good job Lin-Manuel.
