Off-the-wall thriller, percolating with tension throughout
Just when you think Ralph Fiennes' career is fading away, he rises from the ashes with another iconic performance in a provocative, well-made film. He's not the only force at work here, but he does dominate the screen here with a commanding, seething performance as a prestigious chef of fancy cuisine whose exclusive island restaurant the center of this peculiar and serpentine storyline.

A small group of uber-privileged guests go to the island establishment to enjoy an evening of super fancy, super selective dining. The two guests that we get the core vantage point from is a young foodie and his very difficult girlfriend (played with visceral edge by Taylor-Joy). Taylor-Joy, whose character becomes the only one in the whole film even approaching a hero, takes an unlikely character arc here. Her direction seems somewhat implausible, that is, if you can even contemplate how you're going to behave in this film's turn of events. Fiennes' chef is the most fascinating character in recent cinematic history, bar none. Whether you see him as a hero or a twisted villain, whether you agree with his ends or deplore them, his psychology and backstory are brilliantly interwoven.

Nevertheless, this was a thought-provoking and very edgy and unusual film that will make many viewers uncomfortable, but for those who want a sharp, disturbing thriller, done with swagger and personality, I recommend this for your order.

    Wow
This is not a real review, it should be understood more as a collection of impressions on the film.

This film is an absolute masterpiece. Finally a thriller film done well, a beautiful psychological thriller that manages to understand and crown the genre well. The total beauty of the film also inevitably comes from the sublime interpretation of the actors who make this psychological drama even deeper. I recommend watching this film to anyone because it is a truly unmissable masterpiece. In conclusion I can only say that I didn't expect all this magnificence from the now saturated panorama of thrillers and instead this film is wow.
